ON THIS DAY in 1758, King Frederick the Great’s Prussian army defeated Russian troops at the Battle of Zorndorf during the Seven Years War. Segments of Stanley Kubrick’s 1975 film, BARRY LYNDON, with Ryan O’Neal, were set against this conflict.

  1. “Barry Lyndon” the most painterly movie ever filmed… Did you ever hear any stories about how exacting Kubrick was on set? I’ll just say a rather high up gentleman in the art department cracked at a certain point an had to be driven away from set for a short cure.

  2. Hadn’t heard it, Vickie, but I’ve heard some others, so I’m SURE that one’s true. You’ve probably seen STANLEY KUBRICK-A LIFE IN PICTURES. Highly recommended to anyone who hasn’t.
