  2. I am looking forward to part 2 of this blog. Interesting stuff for someone (me) who doesn’t know much about film history. You should tag this blog with “kittens.”

  3. In the documentary I saw yesterday, there was just a short reference to the clip and the movie, saying that the actress was one of the highest paid and her films banned to U.S. audiences. Here’s a link Wikipedia about the movie (which I now must see) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Abyss_(1910_film) but the link to the story of Ms. Nielsen’s career is the one to access. Fascinating.

  4. The film is quite good. Asta is bored with her weekend at the vicarage and she runs off with a circus performer and becomes part of his act….which is the dance. So what makes the dance even creepier is she’s actually doing it on stage for an audience. There is not a happy ending to this one, which is interestingly foreshadowed by the noose hanging off the back of the trolley car that Asta is riding on at the beginning of the film.
